Today was a day of trying out new dishes. Well, they weren't really new dishes, but I never cooked them myself before.
One dish was Jamaican beef patties. I have always had store-bought and they were really tasty. But the reason for me trying this dish was because I wanted my son to have a little more variety in his school lunches. Although I prepare lunch for him at home, it is the same turkey sandwich or chicken nuggets. Boring.
So, I gave it a try, and I must say it came out very well, thank you very much. I made the filling according to a Jamaican recipe I found online, but I bought the puff pastry. Next time I will tackle the dough myself. End result? Not perfect patties, but near-perfect and my son loves it, and wants it for lunch.
The other dish I tried tonight was fried cassava and tomatoes chokha. Let's see, the reason for trying this dish was to try Meatless Mondays. Yes, yes, I know, I made beef patties, but that really does not count, does it? since it was/is for my son's lunch the next day?
Thank goodness for instant messaging, I consulted with my cousin in Trinidad for some clarifications (but I could have texted my mum, too, but she was at work). Again, I must say, it came out very well, and very tasty. The only thing I would change is to add more pepper the next time around.
